Four Corners, July 2006

For Anna and Darrin, July 9th, 2006 was both the beginning of one chapter and the end of another:  It was the beginning of a life of travel together, as we set out on our first real domestic excursion.  It was also the final chapter in testing Darrin's prototype AATREC-FG Expedition Mobile.   Darrin had agreed to sell it in late June, and the buyer graciously allowed us to take one last trip in it before saying goodbye to the machine on August 1st.

Here's our proposed route before we started...

Leaving Douglas in rain that would continue throughout the first day, we headed south through Laramie, Walden, Winter Park, and eventually made Dillon, Colorado.  After a rainy night camping on Lake Dillon, morning brought breathtaking scenery hidden during the evening arrival.

After taking in the local sights, it was south again through country like this...

...as we headed for the Great Sand Dunes National Park...
