Four Corners, July 2006 - Page 2

The early morning sun on the dunes was an awesome sight. We packed up, then strolled out onto them before the crowds came. Had we more time, we would have hiked the approximate 700 feet of elevation to the top of one of the dunes. Unfortunately, we needed to head to Santa Fe. In a couple hours, we found ourselves at the Colorado/New Mexico Border on US 285...
Santa Fe proved for some interesting people-watching. Here's Anna in the St. Francis Cathedral Park...

After strolling around for a few hours, we made our way to a grocery store for supplies, fueled up the camper, and left town heading north and then west past Los Alamos. Our destination for the night was Fenton Lake, in the Santa Fe National Forest...

The small lake was beautiful, but we couldn't camp near it. We found an isolated spot down the road about a mile and enjoyed a peaceful evening away from everyone else. The next day, we went back into Colorado to Mesa Verde. Click here to view another chapter from our travel video, "Fenton Lake to Mesa Verde".
We camped one night at Mesa Verde's campground, then explored some cliff dwellings the next day, including a great tour of Cliff Palace (below), given by one of the park's historians.
