From Mesa Verde, it was on to Lake Powell. That was a pretty good distance for us, since we went out of our way to visit the real Four Corners, where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet at one point. We decided to stay at what looked on our map like a campground at Goosenecks State Park. When we arrived, we found nothing but an empty 104F degrees gravel parking lot, a couple picnic benches, and an outhouse. Perfect: FREE!
That evening it was too hot to really appreciate where we were. Here's Anna trying not to burn to death at Goosenecks...

In the morning, we were both struck by the incredibly beautiful panorama of the goosenecks of the San Juan River. Relieved by an 84º morning, Darrin snapped this shot before departing...

Back on Arizona 163, we traveled through the Navajo Reservation and Monument Valley. With barely a vehicle on the highway, Anna posed for this photo on the famous route...

At the end of the day, we found ourselves at Lake Powell - this time at 108F degrees. The water looked really inviting...

...but when we got to our camping place at Lone Rock Campground, we found thousands of RVs, motorcycles, quads, and all other sorts of noisemakers. Morning couldn't come fast enough for us. A quick breakfast and we were out of there before most other people started moving. Here's the view as the sun came up...

That night, we camped at an unimproved site in the Dixie National Forest, as we made our way to Capitol Reef National Park. It was our favorite night camping on the trip!
