Travelogues

(Updated 08/24/2008 )

We absolutely love to travel, though current obligations to agriculture and business make getting away a bit difficult.  With luck, some upcoming ranch changes will support our wanderlust and we'll be able to spend more time experiencing the world.  Darrin has become more focused on his "expedition camper" business, where he builds marine-grade extreme condition RVs for extended overland travels. We'd like to split our time each year between building campers for others and using the vehicle we've built for ourselves.  Some friends have inspired us over the years, most notably:

www.fullpassport.com - Darrin went to high school with Wes and Jill in the mid-1980s.  They have literally seen the world, and made their incredible backpacking journey public here.

www.camion4x4.com - Based in Paris, Marc and Hélène have built a few expedition campers and traveled to some amazing places in Africa and the Middle East!

www.outdoor-production.com - Sonja and Klaus have been traveling for 18 years, through 51 countries.  We met them at Lake Powell in 2006 when we noticed their Unimog camper parked among the "normal" RVs.

www.ayabombe.org - Jean-Noël, Stephanie, and their FOUR kids are circumnavigating the globe in a Mercedes Atego 4x4 camper Jean-Noël built for himself.  It's an amazing journey, that right now is just beginning in North America.

Our most notable recent travels include...

Holland 2001 - Darrin and his friend Pete fly to Amsterdam, then drive into Germany, buying Unimogs!

Rocky Mountain Unimoggers 2003 - A Unimog camp-out with friends in Colorado.

Florida, North Carolina 2005 - The maiden voyage for the prototype AATREC-FG camper.

Idaho, Oregon, California 2005 - Darrin took the AATREC-FG camper to the Northwest.

Rotterdam, Holland 2006 - We actually met on this trip!

Four Corners 2006 - Our first real trip together.

Yellowstone and Jackson 2008 - Anna's Dad visits us from Holland.

Alaska

The Alaska trip will be the next big one for the camper, but we still haven't really had an official honeymoon, even though we tied the knot over a year ago.  We're contemplating Hawaii in March of 2008.  We also intend to the point the 4x4 camper south in the next couple years and head into Central and South America, after visiting friends in Mexico.  After that, you might just find us in our vehicle Down Under, as we have numerous friends in New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia too.
